tructor allows you to generate file or folders icons, from any picture on your hard drive. It comes with a huge number of predefined icon styles and it places many output options at your disposal. The application is free to try, with a few limitations. Its setup file is roughly 4.40 MB and the installation procedure is straightforward and fast, so it should not take more than a minute to have Icon Cons:tructor up and running. It provides support for Windows XP, as well as later editions, such as Vista or Windows 7. The application is also available for various Mac OS X platforms. Creating an icon can be done in a few simple steps. After loading a picture, on the main user interface, you must select a specific area on the image, by resizing and moving a rectangle. Once you make your selection, you must choose an icon style, select one or more sizes and click a button, on the same interface, to save your icon. The application allows you to save your work as a Windows icon, in 16 or 256 colors or in True Color, but you can also save it as an image, in JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF or TGA format. When importing a source image, you can either select a picture from a local folder, but you can also select a frame, from a MPG, AVI or SWF video file. You can perform many more actions, when editing an icon. Besides selecting a style, you may also change the icon's hue, saturation and lightness levels or apply a Sepia or Monochrome effect. If the available styles are not enough, you can download more from the developer's website. Icons can be saved in up to three different sizes and you can apply the selected style to individual sizes. Instead of restricting you to creating Windows icons, the software allows you to choose between different output methods. For example, you can assign your icon to a local folder. It is also possible to save the icon as an email or web shortcut, as an AIM buddy icon or as an ICQ shortcut.
